5 Tips For A More Eco-Friendly Lifestyle

Do you often dream of living a more eco-friendly lifestyle? Are you passionate about the environment? Do you care about the health of the planet? Yes – then you are in the right place.

For many families, the thing that puts them off living a more eco-friendly lifestyle, is the idea that it is expensive. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth. While there may be some initial costs to becoming more eco-friendly, green living is actually, incredibly cost effective.

Whether you want to save money, the environment or have a more eco-friendly home, these tips for living a more eco-friendly lifestyle are easy to follow:

  1. Recycle

It might seem obvious, but sadly not everyone recycles. You probably already recycle, but if you are one of the few that don’t, make a change and start recycling today.

Recycling is easy to do, doesn’t cost you anything and is an excellent way to help preserve the planet for your children and future generations of earthlings.

  1. Care about your garden

Take the time to nurture and take care of your garden, plant pretty flowers, mow your lawn and trim your trees and shrubs. Instead of placing garden waste in the bin, build a compost heap that you will eventually be able to use to add vitamins and minerals to the garden.

As well as making your garden look pretty, think about how you can support nature. Perhaps you could put up bird feeders or invest in a bird bath? Or maybe, you could create a nature pond? Think about the ways you can transform your garden into an eco-friendly wildlife paradise.

  1.  Put your lights on timer

While it is important to illuminate your home while you are not there, instead of leaving the lights on at all times, put them on timer.

Invest in a few timers and set them up so that when you are away, your lights come on at different times. And then, turn off again.

  1. Grow your own produce

Pesticides and other chemicals used to treat fruit and vegetables are not only harmful to your health, but they can also cause environmental damage.

Instead of encouraging the use of these chemicals, you can either switch to buying organic produce, which, unfortunately, can be expensive. Or, you can consider growing your own fruit and vegetables.

Believe it or not, growing your own fruit and vegetables, from raspberries and pear trees to onions and potatoes, is fun and relatively easy to do. And best of all, it does cost too much either.

  1. Repair, don’t replace

While it is tempting to throw out a broken piece of furniture and replace it, repairing it is better for the environment. By choosing to repair broken items, instead of throwing them away, you can help to reduce waste pollution.

If you aren’t good at DIY but don’t want your old furniture to go to waste, consider hiring a professional to help you out. Or, donate old pieces of furniture to a local DIY refurbishment project.

It’s amazing at how easy it is to become more eco-friendly by making a few small lifestyle changes.
